Rescuing Dreams: An i-Saksham fellow rekindles hope by bringing girls back to school in Bihar's remote and difficult areas

    Pooja, who joined MAITRI as a fellow, an initiative by Educate Girls implemented on the ground by i-Saksham on September 21, 2022, realized that despite the news headlines showcasing girls advancing and achieving new heights, rural India remains quite distant from the mainstream. Pooja, residing in the Amas block of Gaya, holds a bachelor's degree. When Pooja conducted surveys in 30-40 villages, she uncovered the harsh reality that girls were far from receiving an education. Many times, the girls themselves were reluctant to attend school. Pooja has so far visited 20 schools, facilitating the enrollment of over 100 girls. However, this journey was far from easy.

    n the primary school in the Amas block, there were two twin sisters who had been away from school for several years. It was as if they had never seen a school in their village. After conversing with their parents, Pooja collected all the necessary documents. However, the headmaster of the school denied the enrollment, as he considered the survey to lack legitimacy.

    During that same time, Pooja persuaded the Block Education Officer (BEO) and informed him that pressure was being exerted on her to not enroll children in school. After that, the BEO himself spoke to Pooja, saying that she could not compel anyone to enroll children in these schools. After all of this, Pooja had nothing in sight as to what she could do next. Nevertheless, she went back after a week, and with great persistence, she managed to enroll the twin sisters.

During the survey in villages to identify unenrolled girls, people often asked her various questions, such as, "Will this get us money?" or "What's the use of sending girls to school? They could be helping at home and earning some income." She was also inquired about i-Saksham and why she was conducting the survey.  Although many criticized her, seeing young girls doing household chores and working, Pooja couldn't help but think that if she didn't raise her voice and connect these girls with education, the situation would remain the same for generations to come. Denying girls an education would mean they could never voice their thoughts and stand against injustice. 

Pooja narrated the story of a village in the Amas block, where she met the mother of a girl who did not want to send her daughter to school. The mother was skeptical about the importance of education, as she had never received one. Pooja explained to her, "You don't understand the significance of education, that's why you're saying this. If you were educated, you would also send your daughter to school. But since you didn't receive an education, you're denying your daughter the same opportunity. When she grows up, she will impart the same lesson to her child, and she won't educate her either." After hours of explanation, the mother finally agreed to enroll her daughter in school. Nevertheless, when it came to gathering the necessary documents for admission, Pooja faced a challenge. Some documents were missing. In such a situation, Pooja took it upon herself to assist the girl's family in creating all the required documents, ultimately enabling the girl's enrollment.

हाथों से छूटा बेलन और हुई Voice & Choice से मुलाकात

आज मैं आप लोगों के साथ एक समर कैंप के अनुभव को साझा करने के लिए आई हूं। यह कैंप शिक्षा के माध्यम से समाज में बदलाव लाने के उद्देश्य से जून माह- 2023 में  हसनपुर गांव में आयोजित किया गया था। हसनपुर NH-2 से करीब 3 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है, जहां जाने के लिए गाड़ी की भी सुविधा नहीं है क्योंकि यहां 80% SC समुदाय के लोग रहते हैं, जो गया जिले में भुइंया समुदाय से सम्बन्ध रखते हैं।

हमारे संगठन के एडू-लीडर्स द्वारा इस समर कैंप का आयोजन किया था, जिसका “मुख्य उद्देश्य गांव की कक्षा 6-8 के बच्चों में शिक्षा के प्रति रुचि पैदा करना था।”

हाथों में किताबों की जगह बेलन

इस गांव की एक साधारण समस्या थी कि बहुत सी लड़कियां कक्षा के अनुसार पढ़ाई नहीं कर पा रही थीं। इसका मुख्य कारण था कि इन लड़कियों को घर के कामों (खाना बनाना, झाड़ू पोंछा आदि) में लगना पड़ता था। यही कारण है कि उन्हें विद्यालय जाने का अवसर नहीं मिल पाता था, जिस कारण उनमें पढ़ाई के प्रति रुचि नहीं जागृत हो रही थी। 

इस समस्या को समझने के लिए i-Saksham और Pratham ने मिलकर गांव में समर कैंप का आयोजन किया और इसमें एडूलीडर्स की मदद ली गई।

पता चला शिक्षा का महत्व

सोनाली नामक एक लड़की की माँ एडू-लीडर प्रियांजलि से मिलने आई। सोनाली की माँ ने बताया कि सोनाली को पढ़ने का शौक है, लेकिन सोनाली घर के कामों में इतना व्यस्त रहती है कि उसे पढ़ाई के लिए समय ही नहीं मिलता है। प्रियांजलि ने सोनाली की माँ को समझाते हुए कहा, “एक बेहतर शिक्षा सोनाली के जीवन को समृद्ध बना सकती है, और वो अपने घर के कामों के साथ-साथ अपनी पढ़ाई के लिए भी समय निकाल सकती है।"

इस चर्चा के बाद सोनाली की माँ ने अपने मन में एक नई सोच विकसित की और उन्होंने सोनाली को स्कूल भेजने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने का निर्णय लिया। उसे प्रियांजलि के घर, रोजाना पढ़ने के लिए भेजने का फैसला किया। हालांकि पहले दिन सोनाली एडू-लीडर के सामने काफी झिझक महसूस कर रही थी।

और सोनाली ने सीखा वाक्य निमार्ण

सोनाली को पहले कुछ दिनों तक सिर्फ अक्षर पहचानने में काफी मुश्किल होती थी लेकिन उसकी ईमानदारी और मेहनत से उसका स्तर धीरे-धीरे बढ़ने लगा और वह अक्षर से वाक्य बनाने लगी। धीरे-धीरे वह शब्दों की पहचान करने लगी और वाक्य बनाने में सफल हुई। उसके बाद वह पढ़ने का अभ्यास करने लगी।

इसके बाद प्रियांजलि ने सोनाली की अंग्रेजी विषय में भी मदद की। उसे अल्फाबेट की पहचान करने के लिए विभिन्न गतिविधियों का उपयोग करके अल्फाबेट सीखाया। उसकी प्रगति देखकर प्रियांजलि ने उसे छोटे और बड़े शब्दों की पढ़ाई करवाई, जिससे उसका अधिक विकास हुआ और इसे देख कर सोनाली की मम्मी काफी गर्व महसूस कर रही थी एवं एडू-लीडर के प्रति कृतज्ञ महसूस कर रही थी।

अन्य लड़कियां हुई जागरुक

गणित में भी सोनाली की मदद की गई। उसे गतिविधियों के माध्यम से उसे गिनती, जोड़ और गुणा सीखाया। आज सोनाली गांव की विद्या के प्रति अपने आवश्यक उत्साह और प्रतिबद्धता से स्कूल जाती है। उसका यह प्रयास न केवल उसके जीवन को बेहतर बनाने का माध्यम बना बल्कि उसने दूसरी गांव की लड़कियों को भी शिक्षा के मार्ग में प्रेरित किया।

इस तरह के प्रतिदिन के अभ्यास से सोनाली की पढ़ाई में सुधार आने लगा और अब वह प्रतिदिन स्कूल जाने लगी है। उसके प्रयासों और समर्पण के बावजूद उसके रास्ते में कुछ बाधाएं थीं लेकिन वह हर मुश्किलों को मात देती रही।

Choice से हुई मुलाकात

एडू-लीडर ने सोनाली को समझाया कि शिक्षा ही उसका भविष्य निर्माण कर सकता है। प्रियांजलि ने उसे समर्थन और प्रेरणा देने में अपना योगदान दिखाया। यह सबकुछ एडू-लीडर के निरंतर संघर्ष के फलस्वरूप हुआ, जो शिक्षा के प्रति एक सकारात्मक रूप से शिक्षिका बनने की भावना से चल रही थी।

इस अनुभव से हमें यह सीखने को मिलता है कि सफलता के लिए उत्साह, समर्पण और मेहनत की आवश्यकता होती है। हम उन प्रत्येक प्रयास को सलाम करते हैं, जो आपको आपकी मंजिल के करीब ले जाते हैं। हम उम्मीद करते हैं कि आपकी यह सक्रियता और प्रेरणा लड़कियों को शिक्षा की ओर बढ़ाने में मदद करेगी।

इन वाकयों को देखकर मुझे गर्व होता है कि एडू-लीडर पूरी तत्परता के साथ अपनी जिम्मेदारियां निभा रहे हैं। इस समर कैंप के माध्यम से समाज के लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति में सहायता करने का अवसर मिला। हम आशा करते हैं कि इस तरह के और समर्थक कार्यों के माध्यम से हम शिक्षा में सुधार और समाजिक उन्नति को गति देने में योगदान करते रहेंगे।

मेरा नाम अदिबा है। मैंने इतिहास विषय से साल 2020 में स्नातक पूरा किया है। वर्तमान में मैं आई-सक्षम में बड्डी रोल में काम करती हूं और साथ ही विमेंस डेवलपमेंट में डिप्लोमा भी कर रही हूं। मुझे कार चलाना, मेकअप करना, स्टोरी पढ़ना और चाईनीज़ डिशेज़ बनाना पसंद है। मैं एक IPS ऑफिसर बनना चाहती हूं।

voice & choice के लिए कलम भी बन सकता है एक जरिया

मुजफ्फरपुर बैच 9 की लवली ने अपने कक्षा अवलोकन का अनुभव साझा किया है। वे 17 अगस्त 2023 को बड़ी कोठिया, पंचायत मुशहरी, प्रखंड मुशहरी, जिला मुजफ्फरपुर स्थित ‘उत्क्रमिक मध्य विद्यालय कोठिया दाखिला’ में अपने बैच-9 की एडू-लीडर चुनचुन के स्कूल गई थी। वहां उन्होंने देखा कि एडू-लीडर चुनचुन बच्चों को एक्टिविटी के माध्यम से पढ़ा रही थी। कुछ बच्चे स्वयं आगे आकर अपने साथियों के साथ बोर्ड पर लिखकर चुनचुन द्वारा सिखाए गए गणित विषय में कोणों को बता रहे थे।

जब वे कक्षा अवलोकन कर रही थीं, तो उनकी नज़र लगभग 8 साल की एक बच्ची पर पड़ी। उन्होंने देखा कि चुनचुन उस बच्ची को ऊंगली के इशारों से गिनती सीखा रही थी। वहीं बच्ची अपना सिर हिलाकर "हां" और "ना" में जवाब दे रही थी। लवली उस बच्ची के पास गई और चुनचुन से पहले उस बच्ची का नाम पूछा। चुनचुन ने उन्हें बताया कि उस बच्ची का नाम प्रीती है। 

इशारों के पीछे का रहस्य 

लवली ने फिर चुनचुन से पूछा, “आप इसे इशारों में क्यों पढ़ा रही हैं? इस सवाल के जवाब में चुनचुन ने बताया कि प्रीती बोल नहीं सकती है। इतना सुनने के बाद लवली अचंभित हो गई क्योंकि चुनचुन द्वारा किये जा रहे इशारों को प्रीती बहुत अच्छे से समझ रही थी। साथ ही सलीके से और बिल्कुल सही-सही लिख भी रही थी। लवली भी उस बच्ची के पास जाकर बैठी गईं और प्रीती को 1 से 10 तक की गिनती इशारों में बताया। इसके बाद प्रीती ने लवली द्वारा सीखाये गये गणित की गिनती को कॉपी में लिखकर भी दिखाया। 

प्रीती और लवली एक साथ काफी घुल-मिल गये थे। चुनचुन ने लवली को बताया कि प्रीती प्रतिदिन स्कूल आती है और उसे पढ़ने की बहुत इच्छा है। बातों-बातों में चुनचुन थोड़ी भावुक भी हो गई। उनका कहना था कि कोठिया गांव के सभी बच्चे स्कूल आते हैं मगर यहां बच्चों को घर पर पढ़ने की सुविधा नहीं हैं, क्योंकि इस गांव में अधिकतर बच्चों में किसी ना किसी की मम्मी नहीं हैं, तो किसी के पापा नहीं। साथ ही बच्चों के साथ समय बिताते-बिताते उनके साथ जुड़ाव हो जाना लाजिमी है। 

लवली और प्रीती

आवाज़ उठाने के लिए कलम

लवली ने महसूस किया कि चुनचुन के अंदर नेतृत्व करने और हर परिस्थिति का हल निकालने की दक्षता आ गई है। चुनचुन चाहती हैं कि वे हर बच्चे को ना केवल शिक्षित कर सकें बल्कि स्मार्ट गोल कैसे बनाते हैं, अपनी आवाज़ कैसे रखते हैं, ये सारे गुर सीखा सकें। लवली के अनुसार चुनचुन ने प्रीती के अंदर लेखन का बीज बोया है, जिसकी मदद से प्रीती इतना तो जान गई है कि जो लोग बोल नहीं पाते हैं, वे भी अपनी आवाज़ उठा सकते हैं। इसके लिए कलम ही उनका हथियार है, जिसे चुनचुन को प्रीती को बखूबी समझाया है। 

हम उम्मीद करते हैं कि voice & choice का ये सिलसिला अनवरत चलता रहे। कहीं बोल कर तो कहीं लिख कर लेकिन कारवां रुकना नहीं चाहिए। इक कड़ी में दुष्यंत कुमार की पंक्तियां याद आती हैं, हो कहीं भी आग लेकिन आग जलनी चाहिए।

Shaping her own destiny: Rajmani poses from the fields of Bihar to the halls of APU, Bhopal

In Farda village, like in many other places in Munger, Bihar, a common issue exists. Many girls can't continue their schooling as expected and leave early. This happens because they're expected to manage household tasks, care for younger siblings, and follow a predetermined path of marrying and starting families at a young age, often before they even legally can. They have little time for school and lose interest in studying. There are no role models for them, and they lack the voice and choice to make decisions. Rajmani's life was no exception; after her 12th exams, she lacked aspirations, awaiting parental decisions, likely regarding her marriage. 

Partnering with Jeevika in 2019, i-Saksham identified potential young girls and women in remote Bihar districts, fostering them into change leaders through the 2-year-long Edu-leaders’ fellowship. Rajmani was among those who were identified by Jeevika for the i-Saksham edu-leaders cohort of 2019-21. Rajmani initially completed a year of in-person sessions, but when Covid hit, she adapted gracefully even through numerous personal challenges on top of mobility and digital access that were heavily censored or limited for girls. Despite this, Rajmani displayed resilience, venturing outside her comfort zone to support her village during crises, providing relief kits and medicines, building community rapport, and showcasing her determination for the overall well-being of the community. 

"Know Yourself, Change the World" - the golden words Anshu Kumari embraced from a session on "Identity" !

 

Anshu's story is about her strong determination and leadership in a rural village in Begusarai, Bihar. Despite facing challenges and traditional expectations, she showed great courage in creating her own path. Anshu is the only girl in her village who completed her graduation before marriage, choosing to pursue higher education despite financial difficulties. Her dreams go beyond the usual roles assigned to women in her community. In her recent reflection sharing, she shared about her village, education levels, aspirations of girls and women and her own ambitions. Through her note, one ca understand how- despite negative comments and pressure from villagers who believed she should marry early and focus on household duties, Anshu remained firm in breaking free from gender stereotypes. She didn't want to end up like her mother, who had an education but ended up working in the fields. Instead, she aimed to be recognized and set an example for other girls.

In 2023, Anshu joined the i-Saksham edu-leaders fellowship programme in Begusarai, which opened up new possibilities for her. Here she learned and gained a fresh understanding of her surroundings.

During a session on "Identity," Anshu's thoughts deeply impacted her fellow participants. She came to realize the importance of understanding one's own likes, dislikes, voice, and choices to set clear goals and remain true to oneself. 

Anshu shared, "It became a way of life for all the edu-leaders to appreciate differences and stay true to ourselves."

"पहचान" सत्र में हमारे अनुभव ने हमें हमारी पसंद और नापसंद को समझने में मदद की। हमारी आवाज़ और चुनौती को भी समझने का मौका मिला। हमारे लिए यह जानना महत्वपूर्ण था क्योंकि हमारी पसंदों को समझकर हम स्पष्ट लक्ष्य तय कर सकते हैं। हमारी पसंद दूसरों से अलग हो सकती हैं, और अगर हम समूह के दबाव में आकर अन्यायी काम करते हैं, तो हमारी असली पहचान को नुकसान हो सकता है, जिससे हमारे सफलता में कमी आ सकती है और हमारी आवाज़ और चुनौती का संक्षिप्त होना सकता है।"

[Our experience from the session yesterday on Identity was about understanding our likes and dislikes, including our voice and choice. It was essential for us to know more about ourselves because without knowing our preferences, we cannot set clear goals. Our likes might differ from others, and if we succumb to peer pressure, we may do things that don't align with our true selves, leading to a lack of success and a loss of our voice and choice] writes Anshu in her deep reflection note.

In her village, Anshu recognized the need to challenge harmful beliefs and practices that limit girls' opportunities, such as child marriage and menstrual taboos. Her vision of equality and empowerment resonated deeply with the fellowship, and they pledged to dismantle such customs and foster an inclusive society.

Anshu's leadership traits stand out through her strong determination, dedication to making a difference, and the positive influence she has had in her community in a short time. Her journey from a protected life at home to becoming a source of hope for other girls highlights the power of education and self-awareness to bring about meaningful change.

In the words of Anshu herself, "I aim to challenge harmful practices and beliefs, proving that girls are no less than boys in any aspect and to be the one people give an example of how a girl should be like - audacious, kind and ambitious despite all barriers."

While she was initially disregarded as a naive village girl by teachers and elders there, to be even being placed in the school to assist in teaching as part of her fellowship, she persisted and applied her fellowship learning in the classrooms. Her dedication and passion for education transformed the attitudes of her critics, who now respect her work in the school and community.

Anshu knows how fortunate she is to have her family's backing in her journey of learning, exploring, and growing as a person. Unlike many of her friends, her family doesn't rush to marry her off. Anshu strongly believes that proving the importance of education, freedom, and family support to the community and society around her is so crucial. This belief fuels her determination to make a positive impact and inspire other families with daughters to stand against societal pressures. She wants to influence parental mindsets and create a significant change in the lives of countless girls who face early school dropouts due to early marriages, and other societal expectations from girls. Her reflection reminds us that real leaders emerge when they bravely challenge the status quo and work towards a better future.

Discovering New Horizons: Nandini's Inspiring Journey of Confidence, Self-Belief, and Courage!

    Nandini Singh, an alumna of the i-Saksham edu-leaders' fellowship, has embarked on an inspiring journey that she eagerly shares with us today. Her story begins in 2020, during the challenging times of the pandemic when she joined i-Saksham Edu-leaders’ fellowship’s 5th cohort. It was a significant step for Nandini as she decided to step out of her comfort zone and take the leap beyond the threshold of her familiar surroundings.

  

 At the outset, Nandini faced apprehension and uncertainty as she vividly remembers the initial trepidation (fear) she felt when she returned home in the evening after her first day with i-Saksham. The support from her family was not immediate, but she discovered an inner strength and belief in herself and her abilities. With each passing day, Nandini's dedication and hard work began to shine, gradually garnering the recognition and support of her family.

    Throughout her journey in the Edu-leader fellowship, Nandini dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her work, leaving no stone unturned to ensure its excellence. Her relentless efforts paid off, and she soon played a significant role as a peer mentor within i-Saksham. She approaches her responsibilities with dedication daily and strives to do and learn better each time. 

    Nandini received a job offer from the Aditya Birla Academy, an organization that recruits trainers to facilitate training for government teachers. Initially, she didn't fully grasp the significance of the opportunity, as i-Saksham had presented her with several offers in the past. However, a sense of unease crept in during the selection process, casting doubt on her decision. The idea of leaving her district and her seven-year-old child, and seeking permission from her family seemed like formidable challenges to overcome, she gathered the courage to embark on this new opportunity. 

    Summoning her courage, Nandini took the leap toward her aspirations. Despite her initial fears, she quickly realized the latent power within her. The professors and lecturers she encountered at Aditya Birla Academy were unaware of her relatively short experience in the field. Nandini's dedication, supported by i-Saksham's confidence-building initiatives, allowed her to showcase her true potential. Her commitment and skill in the role made others assume she had been in this line of work for a decade or more.

"Within me lies a tremendous power that I discovered after joining this program (training the teachers). The teachers, professors, and lecturers who come to our program have no idea that I have been working for two years post-fellowship. They assume that I have been doing this work for the past 10 or 12 years. They don't realize that I lack that many years of experience. But with the support and confidence given by i-Saksham, I have shown my true potential. What more could describe better about the transformation of my personality that has been polished by i-Saksham's support?", shares Nandini.

Today, Nandini is brimming with happiness and pride. After touring the campus and meeting Dr. Vandana, her husband shares her joy and admiration.

While Nandini humbly mentioned that her name appeared in Dainik Bhaskar (newspaper), her husband revealed his unspoken pride in her accomplishments. 

Nandini attributes her success to the unwavering guidance and support of i-Saksham, acknowledging the pivotal role the organization played in her journey. Nandini's achievements carry immense significance as an alumna of the i-Saksham edu-leaders' fellowship. Her accomplishments represent her personal growth and success and the breaking of stereotypes and barriers marginalized girls and women face. Through her determination and support from i-Saksham, Nandini has opened doors and created opportunities that pave the way for others who face similar challenges.

क्या सीमा का निर्णय सही था? अगर आप उनकी जगह होते, तो आपका निर्णय क्या होता?

नामांकन कराती सीमा

हर दिन की तरह आज भी आमस प्रखंड के नीमा गांव की रहने वाली सीमा सुबह-सुबह बच्चियों के नामांकन हेतु गांवों के निरीक्षण के लिए निकल पड़ी। आज सीमा अकेली नहीं थीं बल्कि उनके साथ उनकी एक सहयोगी भी मौजूद थी इसलिए गंतव्य पर पहुंचने के दौरान दोनों ने आपस में विचार विमर्श किया कि क्यों न समय को ध्यान में रखते हुए दो साथी दो अलग-अलग स्कूलों में चले जाएं। इस बात पर सहमति बनने के बाद दोनों के रास्ते अलग हो गए मगर मंजिल एक रही अनामांकित बच्चियों का नामांकन। 

सीमा ने शेरघाटी ब्लॉक के बार गांव का सर्वे पहले किया था इसलिए उन्हें जानकारी थी कि वहां पर दो स्कूल हैं। पहला, एक प्राथमिक विद्यालय बार स्कूल और दूसरा मध्य विद्यालय बार हुसैनगंज स्कूल है। सर्वे के दौरान उन्हें पता चला था कि बार के पोषक क्षेत्र वाले बच्चे बार के ही स्कूल में नामांकन करवाते हैं और वार हुसैनगंज वाले पोषक क्षेत्र वाले बच्चे वार हुसैनगंज में ही नामांकन करवाते हैं इसलिए सीमा प्राथमिक विद्यालय बार में बच्चों के नामांकन के लिए चली गई। साथ ही अपने साथ आईं सहयोगी अंजना ने मध्य विद्यालय वार हुसैनगंज में बच्चों के नामांकन की कमान संभाली। 

जब सीमा बच्चों और उनके अभिभावकों को लेकर बार स्कूल में पहुंची तो वहां उन्हें अनेक चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ा। प्राथमिक विद्यालय बार स्कूल के हेडमास्टर ने कहा, “आज हम नामांकन नहीं लेंगे।” हालांकि ये स्थिति पहली दफा नहीं थी बल्कि कई बार सीमा ने ऐसी चुनौतियों का सामना किया था इसलिए वे स्पष्ट थी कि इन चुनौतियों के बाद नामांकन हो ही जाएगा इसलिए उन्होंने हेडमास्टर को समझाने का प्रयास किया और कहा, “सर, नामांकन ले लीजिए।” सीमा के इतना कहते ही हेडमास्टर ने कहा, “ऐसे कैसे लेंगे नामांकन? क्योंकि अब तो नामांकन ऑनलाइन होता है और जब तक बच्चे का सारा डॉक्यूमेंट हमारे पास उपस्थित नहीं होगा, तब तक नामांकन नहीं लेंगे।” 

इतना सुनने के बाद सीमा ने कहा, सर, मुझे भी एस आर नंबर लेना रहता है। इस पर हेडमास्टर ने तल्ख मिजाज में कहा, कोई बात नहीं। आप किसी दूसरे दिन आकर ले लीजिएगा। इस पर सीमा ने कहा, नहीं सर। आज ही नामांकन करवाएंगे और एस आर नंबर किसी दूसरे दिन लेने आएंगे। मुझे आज ही एस आर नंबर नहीं लेना है बल्कि नामांकन कराना है। इसपर हेडमास्टर ने कहा, ठीक है। आधार कार्ड का फोटो कॉपी करवा कर लाइए। सीमा तुरंत आधार कार्ड की कॉपी करवाकर ले आईं लेकिन तब भी उन्हें 15 मिनट तक इंतजार कराया गया मगर तब भी नामांकन के लिए नहीं बुलाया गया। इस पर सीमा ने हेडमास्टर से मिल कर उन्हें कहा, सर, मैं 20 मिनट तक इंतजार कर लूंगी लेकिन मुझे अब नामांकन और एस आर नंबर आज ही चाहिए। अंततः हेडमास्टर को बच्ची का नामांकन करना पड़ा और सीमा के इतने प्रयास के बाद बच्ची का एस आर नंबर भी मिला। इस प्रकार सीमा ने प्राथमिक विद्यालय बार में दो लड़कियों का नामांकन करवाया। 

इसके बाद सीमा के अंदर आत्मविश्वास जाग उठा और अब वे बार हुसैनगंज स्कूल में नामांकन के लिए चल पड़ी। सीमा जैसे ही स्कूल के पास पहुंची तब अंजना का फोन आया। फोन के दूसरी ओर से आवाज आई, दीदी, आज सर नामांकन नहीं लेंगे। इस पर सीमा ने अंजना से कहा, कोई बात नहीं। मैं अभी स्कूल ही पहुंचने वाली हूं। 

सीमा ने जैसे ही स्कूल में कदम रखा, उन्हें उनकी पहली चुनौती मिल गई। हेडमास्टर गेट के पास ही खड़े थे। सीमा ने उनका अभिवादन किया लेकिन हेडमास्टर ने बिना अभिवादन का जवाब दिए ही प्रश्नों की बौछार कर दी और पूछा, “आप भी आई सक्षम से ही आए हैं?” इस पर सीमा ने हामी भरी। इस पर हेडमास्टर ने कहा, ठीक है। आप अंदर जाकर बैठिए।” इसके बाद सीमा अंदर जाकर बैठ गईं, तभी हेडमास्टर ने कमरे में कदम रखते हुए ही पूछा, आपको भी नामांकन करवाना है? सीमा ने हामी भरी और कहा, जी हां सर। आज ही नामांकन करवाना है। उन्होंने दोबारा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए पूछा कि सच में आज ही नामांकन कराना है, तो सीमा ने ढता से जवाब दिया कि जी हां, आज ही नामांकन कराना है। 

इस पर हेडमास्टर ने कहा, ठीक है। अभी मेरे पास एक भी एडमिशन का फॉर्म नहीं है, तो इसे आप फोटो कॉपी करवा कर लाइए और इसे भरिए तभी एडमिशन आज के डेट में लेंगे। अन्यथा जब तक हमारे पास 5 बच्चे एक साथ उपस्थित होंगे तब तक एडमिशन नहीं लेंगे। इतना सुनने के बाद सीमा ने स्वयं जाकर फॉर्म का फोटो कॉपी करवाया और लाकर उसे भरकर दे दिया। 

सीमा द्वारा इतना कार्य करने के बाद हेडमास्टर ने दोबारा कहा, आप तो एडमिशन करवा कर चले जाइएगा लेकिन बच्चे नहीं आएंगे इसलिए बच्चे के विद्यालय नहीं आने पर जिम्मेदारी आपकी होगी क्योंकि पहली कक्षा में भी आपने कई बच्चों का एडमिशन करवा लेकिन एक भी बच्चे उपस्थित नहीं होते हैं इसलिए आप आवेदन लिखिए और इसमें अपना हस्ताक्षर करिए। इसके साथ ही अपने संस्था का नाम लिखिए और बच्चों के अभिभावक से भी रोज आने के लिए हस्ताक्षर करवाइए, तभी हम आज एडमिशन करेंगे अन्यथा नहीं करेंगे। 

इस पर भी सीमा राजी हो गई और कहा, ठीक है सर। अंततः सीमा ने लिखित आवेदन दे दिया मगर सीमा के मन में उधेड़बुन थी कि ये आजतक की सबसे बड़ी चुनौती थी लेकिन वे खुश थी कि उन्होंने मध्य विद्यालय  हुसैनगंज में 4 बच्चियों का नामांकन करवाया। 

इसके बाद सीमा ने हेडमास्टर को धन्यवाद बोलते कहा और अपने दूसरे गंतव्य की ओर बढ़ गईं। जैसे-जैसे सीमा के कदम आगे बढ़ रहे थे, वैसे-वैसे मन में सवालों का बवंडर उठ रहा था लेकिन वे समझ नहीं पा रही थी। अचानक सीमा के मन में मन में विचार आया कि दूसरे गांव में भी नामांकन के लिए चले जाते हैं। इसके बाद सीमा महमदपुर गांव में बच्चों के नामांकन के लिए चल पड़ी। यहां भी उन्हें सर्वे करने का फायदा हुआ क्योंकि उनके पास उन बच्चियों के अभिभावकों का नंबर और अन्य जानकारी थी, जिनका नामांकन नहीं हो सका था इसलिए उन्हें तुरंत अपना फोन निकाला और एक नंबर डायल किया।

उन्होंने एक अभिभावक को कॉल करके अपने बच्चे को लेकर महमदपुर स्कूल में लेकर आने के लिए कहा। अभिभावक भी अपने बच्चे को लेकर महमदपुर स्कूल में पहुंच गए। स्कूल पहुंचते ही एक शिक्षक ने पूछा, क्या आप लोगों का भी कोई प्रोग्राम करना है क्योंकि अभी-अभी प्रथम कक्षा वाले प्रोग्राम कर रहे हैं। इस पर सीमा ने कहा, नहीं सर। मुझे तो बच्चे का नामांकन करवाना है। इस पर उन्होंने कहा, ठीक है। आप जाकर हेडमास्टर से बातचीत कीजिए। 

सीमा ने हेडमास्टर से बातचीत करके और सारे कागजात देकर 3 बच्चियों का नामांकन कराया। सीमा और हेडमास्टर के बीच बातचीत चल ही रही थी कि हेडमास्टर ने थोड़ा रूक कर कहा, आप इतनी मेहनत दूसरों की बच्चियों के लिए कर रही हैं क्योंकि ईट-भट्टे पर काम करने वाले अभिभावक आने के लिए तैयार नहीं है क्योंकि वो शिक्षा के प्रति जागरूक नहीं है और आप ईट-भट्टे पर जाकर माता-पिता का हाथ पकड़ कर उनके बच्चों का नामांकन करवा रहे हैं। इतना कोई भी नहीं कर सकता है। आप इतनी मेहनत कर रही हैं। दूसरे के बच्चे के उज्जवल भविष्य के लिए आपके मेहनत का वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता है। इतना तो हम लोग टीचर हैं फिर भी नहीं कर सकते हैं, जितना आप कर रही हैं। ठीक इसी प्रकार जैसे आप बच्चियों का नामांकन करवा रही हैं, ठीक उसी प्रकार आप अपना पता और फोन नंबर दीजिए।” 

इतना सुनने के बाद सीमा ने सवालिया निगाहों से देखते हुए पूछा, “लेकिन क्यों सर?” इस पर हेडमास्टर ने कहा, “आप जिस बच्चे का नामांकन करवाए हैं, अगर वह बच्चा विद्यालय में अनुपस्थित रहेगा तो आपके पास तुरंत कॉल जाएगा। जिस तरीका से आप अभी इनके ईट-भट्टे पर से लाकर एडमिशन करवा रहे हैं, ठीक उसी प्रकार विद्यालय के समय बच्चे के विद्यालय में उपस्थित नहीं रहने पर आप आकर बच्चे को स्कूल में उपस्थित करवाइएगा।” 

सीमा मौन रही लेकिन बच्चियों का चेहरा देखकर उन्होंने अपना पता और नंबर तो साझा कर दिया और उन्होंने 3 विद्यालयों में 9 बच्चियों का नामांकन कराया लेकिन अपनी निजी जानकारी साझा करने और लिखित में घोषणा-पत्र देने के कारण सीमा चिंतित हैं क्योंकि अगर कोई बच्ची स्कूल नहीं जाएगी, तो उन्हें दोषी ठहराया जाएगा। भले ही सीमा ने नामांकन और जागरूक करने का बीड़ा उठाया हो लेकिन क्या बार-बार सीमा को कॉल करना और बच्चों के अनुपस्थित रहने पर जिम्मेदार ठहराना सही है और क्या सीमा का निजी जानकारी साझा करना सही है जबकि सीमा ने तो समाज में बदलाव के लिए झंडा उठाया है? 

सीमाः ऑटो ना मिलने के कारण पैदल चलना पड़ा लेकिन कम नहीं हुआ हौसला

साल 2023 में NGO प्रथम द्वारा 17वीं वार्षिक शिक्षा रिपोर्ट (ASER), 2022  के अनुसार कोविड-19 के दौरान आर्थिक तंगी के कारण लड़कियां स्कूल जाने से वंचित हो गई और कई लड़कियों की शादी कम उम्र में कर दी गई। साथ ही रिपोर्ट बताती है कि स्कूलों में गैर-नामांकित 11-14 आयु वर्ग की लड़कियों के अनुपात में साल 2018 के 4.1% से 2022 में 2% की कमी एक महत्त्वपूर्ण सुधार और सकारात्मक विकास है। यह इंगित करता है कि शिक्षा में लैंगिक समानता को बढ़ावा देने के प्रयास प्रभावी रहे हैं और इससे स्कूलों में लड़कियों के नामांकन को बढ़ाने में मदद मिली है। 

हालांकि ग्रामीण इलाकों की बात करें तो वहां शिक्षा के स्तर में अब भी व्यापक बदलाव की आवश्यकता है, जिसे MAITRI प्रोजेक्ट के जरिए सामने लाने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है। i-Saksham के तत्वधान में चलाए जा रहे MAITRI प्रोजेक्ट के जरिए एडूलीडर्स गांवों-कस्बों एवं दुर्लभ परेशानियों का सामना करते हुए अनामांकित बच्चियों का दाखिला सरकारी विद्यालयों में करा रहे हैं। ये एडू-लीडर्स मुंगेर, जमुई एवं गया के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में सक्रिय हैं, जो विभिन्न चरणों में अनामांकित बच्चियों की पहचान करके उन्हें शिक्षा से जोड़ने का कार्य कर रहे हैं। 

इस कड़ी में वे सबसे पहले सर्वे करते हैं, जिसमें वे घर-घर जाकर अनामांकित बच्चों को चिह्नित करते हैं एवं अभिभावकों को समझाने का प्रयास करते हैं। एडू-लीडर्स उन्हें शिक्षा की महत्ता बताते हैं, सरकारी योजनाओं की जानकारी देते हैं एवं जरूरी कागजातों को इक्ट्ठा करते हुए बच्चियों का नामांकन नजदीक के विद्यालय में कराते हैं। 

नामांकन कराती सीमा

और पैदल चल पड़ी सीमा 

सीमा दिनांक 27/5/2023 दिन शनिवार को सुबह 5:30 बजे दिनचर्या एवं घर के कामों को निपटाकर अनामांकित लड़कियों के नामांकन के लिए ढाबचिरैया के लिए चल पड़ी। जब वे शेरघाटी पहुंची, तो उन्होंने ओटो रिजर्व करने का निर्णय लिया क्योंकि गांव की दूरी अधिक होने के कारण रास्ता काफी कठीन था लेकिन दुर्गम रास्ता होने के कारण ओटो भी वाला तैयार नहीं हुआ। 

ऑटो ना मिलने और रास्ता कठीन होने की बात को दरकिनार करते हुए सीमा ने बिना किसी का इंतजार किए पैदल ही चलने का निर्णय लिया। इतने में कुछ ही दूर जाने के बाद उन्हें एक और ओटो वाला दिखा, जिससे उन्होंने बात करने की कोशिश की और कहा, भईया, ज्यादा दूर नहीं जाना है। आप बीच रास्ते में एक स्कूल पड़ता है। आप मुझे बीच रास्ते में ही उतार दिजिएगा। बार-बार कहने के बाद ऑटो वाले ने हामी भरी और सीमा स्कूल पहुंच गईं।

अनामांकित बच्चों का हुआ नामांकन 

स्कूल पहुंचने के बाद उन्होंने देखा कि उस समय तक एक भी टीचर उपस्थित नहीं थे। स्कूल में केवल बच्चे थे। इस दौरान सीमा ने सोचा कि क्यों न गांव में जाकर बच्चों के अभिभावकों से मिलकर बातचीत की जाए। इसके बाद वे ढाबचिरैया गांव में जाकर बच्चों के अभिभावकों से मिलकर बातें करने लगी और उसके बाद वे टोला कुशी में आ गई। 

वहां भी बच्चों के अभिभावकों से मिलकर बातचीत करके दोबारा स्कूल में पहुंची, तब तक प्रिंसिपल सर भी आ चुके थे। उन्होंने प्रिंसिपल से मिल कर नामांकन के लिए बात चीत की और उन्होंने 8 बच्चों का नामांकन कराया, जिसमें 2 लड़कियां और 4 लड़के शामिल थे। 

सीमा के ऑटो ना मिलने की समस्या यहां भी थी लेकिन उन्होंने हार ना मानते हुए ढाबचिरैया स्कूल से काफी दूरी बसे एक गांव के घुजी स्कूल में पहुंच गई। वहां भी उन्होंने बच्चों के माता-पिता से मिलकर नामांकन के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया और 2 अनामांकित लड़कियों का घुजी स्कूल में नामांकन करवाया गया।  

सीमा ने सुबह-सुबह की अपने घर की चौखट को अनामांकित लड़कियों एवं लड़कों के नामांकन के लिए पार किया था और उनका यह प्रयास दिन ढलते-ढलते यर्थाथ में तब्दील हो रहा था।

 

Meet Sunita, the Silent Trailblazer from a remote Bihar village: Inspiring Transformation, Defying Norms, and Empowering Girls

In the remote and underprivileged areas of Bihar, where we are actively running the i-Saksham fellowship, the struggles faced by the youth are all too common. The lack of basic amenities and resources makes it incredibly challenging for individuals to access education and opportunities for progress.

Meet Sunita, a determined young girl from the small village of Jatikutiya in the Mahagama Panchayat. Despite the obstacles she faced, Sunita joined our fellowship in the fifth Cohort. She holds the distinction of being the first girl from her village to pursue higher education. Initially, upon joining the fellowship, she spoke very little and remained silent during conversations. She would feel shy when nursery rhymes were sung during the training sessions as she never had such an environment in her school. Her low confidence stems from her limited exposure. 

During a classroom visit by her assigned Buddy, in the underserved school where she is placed as part of the fellowship program, she expressed her desire to teach math but was unsure about how to go about it. To support her, the class was taken over by the Buddy. Many times, the children in that school wouldn't come to study, prompting Sunita to fetch them individually. Sadly, her efforts often went in vain.

There were moments when Sunita contemplated quitting, but with the support and encouragement from her buddy and i-Saksham team, she found the strength to persevere. This marked a turning point in her life. Today, Sunita confidently asserts her ability to speak fearlessly and has become an inspiration to all. Over the past year, Sunita has conducted engaging activities and utilized teaching-learning materials to teach all subjects in her school. She has witnessed significant improvement in the learning abilities of her students, with more children attending school than ever before. 

 Adhawesh Kumar, a teacher at UMS Jatikutiyal, shared an encouraging observation during a visit to their middle school in Jatikutiya. He noted the positive impact Sunita has had on the community.  He said, "It isn’t just that she is assisting us, but the fact that she comes from such a difficult and backward background makes all the difference and it is inspirational for all the girls in the vicinity! We have noted that since Sunita joined, the number of children attending school had significantly increased and it is only increasing. And if girls like her continue to grow and inspire like this, creating a positive environment in the society for girls and women is definitely possible."

Sunita's journey didn't end with the fellowship. She took the initiative to continue her studies and achieve financial independence, leading to her selection as a Maitri Fellow. She now works with the i-Saksham edu-leaders and team, supported by Educate Girls, to ensure every girl in Bihar receives education and enrollment opportunities. 

Sunita's life took a transformative turn through the i-Saksham fellowship. It provided her with the opportunity to explore the world outside her secluded village, interact with role models, like-minded individuals, and peer groups, and gain exposure to diverse perspectives. Empowered with resources, mentorship, and guidance, she has turned her dreams into tangible action. Sunita's story reminds us that even the most challenging circumstances can be overcome with determination and support. Sometimes we need to walk alone for some distance and if we are on the right path, we will meet like-minded people with whom we can share our journey. Let's celebrate her journey and inspire more young girls to reach for their dreams!

Captivating City Chronicles: A Tapestry of Stories and Perspectives (Ayush)

Determined to ensure the return of Every Girl to School, our team members are fearlessly facing the sweltering heat of Bihar's summer. They tirelessly traverse numerous villages, extending their support not only within their own assigned locations but also lending a helping hand to their teammates in other areas. One of our team members, Ayush, found himself immersed in profound reflections while carrying out his duties in a new city - Gaya. As he made his way back to the office, he couldn't help but deeply observe the city, leading him to contemplate the following insights.

"It was around 12:00 noon. As I was heading from my workplace (villages) to the office, I suddenly saw an old man of around 70 years selling ice cream on the streets, facing the scorching heat and sunlight. Next to him was a hotel where a 13 or 14-year-old boy was scrubbing and cleaning utensils. Meanwhile, a group of 22 or 25-year-old boys was wandering here and there, listening to loud music in their cars. Sometimes I think about how difficult life is. Different people have different rules to live by. But then I remember that everyone has their own goals. 

    For the past three days, I have been in Gaya. I am observing Gaya deeply, trying to understand it. This city is beyond my comprehension. Not just Gaya, but other cities as well are beyond my comprehension. When our needs are not met in the village, we run towards the cities. With closed eyes, we enter an unfamiliar city. Sometimes we come across familiar faces in these unfamiliar cities, and sometimes these cities remain forever unfamiliar. 

    Nothing is predetermined in life. There is no foundation for anything to be predetermined, such as what a 70-year-old man should do or what tasks are assigned to a 14-year-old boy. What should 25-year-old boys do? We have a path, but it has no set standards. Often, when we are tired, we think that life is not dancing to our tunes. It's not everything we desire. In reality, there is no definition of life. It is an independent entity, with one end bound by our needs and responsibilities and the other end completely free. In this way, it is uncertain when life will take a turn. We all are playing different roles in our stories. Some carry the burden of living at the age of 70, while others bear the weight of responsibilities at the age of 14. There are those who roam without any responsibilities or work at the age of 25. We all have our own characters, and the amazing thing is that we will fulfill our acting until the curtain rises.

    Many times I wonder what is there in the city that attracts everyone. Then suddenly I see the crowd. I see an ice cream shop, a fruit and vegetable cart. I see a rickshaw puller. Later, I observe the entire city. It absorbs everyone within itself. "

विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस पर एडुलीडर प्रियांजलि ने आयोजित किया कार्यक्रम

 

पर्यावरण दिवस पर विद्यालय में पेड़ लगाते हुए।

i-Saksham के बैच-8 की एडू-लीडर प्रियांजलि ने विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के अवसर पर प्राथमिक विद्यालय हसनपुर में बच्चों को पर्यावरण दिवस को लेकर जागरुक करने के लिए शिक्षकों के सहयोग से नाटक का आयोजन किया। 

विद्यालय में जगह की कमी थी इसलिए एडू-लीडर एवं शिक्षक थोड़ी आशंकित थे और उन्हें जागरुकता कार्यक्रम करना थोड़ी मुश्किल लग रहा था। उस गांव में एक प्राथमिक और राजकीय मध्य विद्यालय भी थे, जहां एक बड़ा ग्राउंड था और वहां कार्यक्रम को आसानी से कराया जा सकता था इसलिए शिक्षकों ने प्रिंसिपल सर से बात की ताकि इस कार्यक्रम को थोड़े बड़े पैमाने पर किया जा सके। प्रिंसिपल सर ने कार्यक्रम को करने के लिए हामी भर दी और स्वयं भी कार्यक्रम में उपस्थित हुए। 

विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस के अवसर पर शिक्षकों एवं ए़डू-लीडर ने बच्चों को वृक्षारोपण के प्रति जागरुक किया एवं वृक्षों की रक्षा करने के लिए प्रेरित किया ताकि वे लंबे समय तक हमारे साथ बने रहें। साथ ही इस अवसर पर सामुदायिक तौर पर अभिभावकों, शिक्षकों एवं बच्चों ने वृक्षारोपण किया। जैसे- आंवला, नीम, आम आदि क पौधे लगाए गए।

अंत में बच्चों की ओर से एक नाटक प्रस्तुत किया गया, जिसमें उन्होंने वृक्षारोपण करने के लिए लोगों को जागरुक किया। कुछ बच्चों ने पेड़-पौधे बन कर वर्तमान समय की हकीकत बयान कि और बढ़ते तापमान को देखते हुए वृक्षारोपण करने के लिए लोगों को उत्साहित किया कि अगर वे एक पेड़ काटेंगे, तो दो पेड़ लगाएंगे और उसकी रक्षा करेंगे। 

यह कार्यक्रम i-Saksham के एडु-लीडर के सहयोग से किया गया क्योंकि उन्होंने ही शिक्षकों के साथ मिल कर कार्यक्रम को करने का निर्णय लिया था एवं सारी तैयारियां भी की थी। 

Claiming Identity: Empowering Girls through Self-Agency to Inspire Change and Challenge Gender Stereotypes

   

    One of the sessions that take place during the i-Saksham Fellowship for Community Change leaders ' Capacity Building in Leadership is about self-agency. The objective of this session is to create awareness about agency and empower individuals to take control of their lives and make positive changes.

In one such session, the girls shared their personal stories of change and empowerment, highlighting the importance of self-agency. Here is how the session in general rolls!

    To kickstart the session, a picture of Amal Hussein, a girl affected by war and malnutrition, was shared, which sparked a discussion about values, thoughts, and actions. The girls were encouraged to think deeply about the impact of their choices and actions and how they could use their agency to create positive change in their lives and communities. The session also incorporated Kamla Bhasin's writings to encourage critical thinking and reflection.

    Kamla Bhasin's stories and poems provided an opportunity for the girls to explore their beliefs and values and to challenge traditional gender roles and stereotypes. During the session, Rakhi shared her experience of advocating for boys and girls to study together in her school, while Rozi shared how she encouraged girls to play with boys during playtime. Nikita shared how she was the only girl in her village who goes out and does all the work, which highlighted the importance of breaking gender stereotypes and challenging traditional roles.

 During the session, the girls actively participate in heartfelt exchanges, revealing their profound awareness of how traditional gender roles confine and restrict them, leaving them helpless and reliant. Their testimonials, wherein they acknowledge these limitations and strive to challenge them, serve as a powerful source of empowerment. The session centers on instilling the importance of self-agency, critical thinking, and reflection, equipping the girls with the necessary tools to effect positive transformations in their lives and communities.

Bulbul proves that the pursuit of knowledge is limitless, irrespective of age! (Back to studies after 18 years)

"I am Bulbul Kumari, Batch-7 Edu-leader. I wanted to share my journey of education and empowerment. I got married in 2003, the same year I completed my 12th grade. My marriage took place in a family and society where education was lacking. No one in my family understood the importance of education when I expressed my desire to study. As a result, my studies were interrupted, and the family situation was not favorable. So, I suppressed my aspirations and became involved in household responsibilities, cutting off my connection with education. The desire to learn within me faded, but I still had a passion for teaching, so I started teaching the children around me.

In 2006, I got an opportunity to teach in a private school where I worked for a year. During that year, my mother passed away, which caused me immense sorrow. I left everything behind and isolated myself at home, disconnecting from the outside world.

In 2011, I had the chance to study in a residential school located in the mountains (Santhal region). However, the school only operated for 11 months before closing down. I found myself in the same situation as before, with no significant changes. Then one day, I received a call from a teacher at the school where I initially started teaching, suggesting that if I wasn't engaged in anything else, I should come and teach at their school. In 2017, I resumed teaching and continued for three years.

A significant change occurred in my life when everything seemed to come to a standstill. In 2020, Sanjay Bhaiya and Dharamveer Sir visited my house, and I joined i-Saksham. That was the most transformative moment of my life! After a few months, I noticed a change within myself. Teaching the children has always brought me happiness and contentment, something I had been doing for many years. However, I realized that my teaching methods were not correct. As I received intensive training during my fellowship, my self-confidence started to grow.

One day, during a session, I learned about IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University), and a voice from within me said that I could start studying again. But I was afraid. It had been 18  long years since I left my studies, and I didn't know how I would resume my education. However, my husband encouraged me to study and pursue my certification. Along with him, my sister-in-law (elder to my husband) became my friend and provided great support. I would also like to express my gratitude to i-Saksham for becoming a platform that allowed me to restart my studies after almost 18 years. Currently, I am doing my graduation and I am enrolled in the second year of my Bachelor's degree."

i-Saksham Edu-leader Fellowship for the community change leaders like Bulbul Kumari is active in five districts of Bihar. The fellows undergo two years of transformative journey that builds their skills in three tracks - Personal, Educational, and Community Leadership. The program's three-pronged approach is well-rounded and comprehensive. Firstly, it focuses on enhancing the personal leadership capabilities of the selected fellows, which will not only empower them individually but also enable them to inspire others and lead effectively. This emphasis on personal growth and development is crucial for building strong leaders. Bulbul Kumari is an edu-leader from the 7th Cohort and they are going to graduate soon from the fellowship. Bulbul and other change leaders from the 7th and 8th cohort are fully equipped to create change in their communities and beyond. 

एडूलीडर बुलबुल के जीवन में 18 वर्ष बाद लौटी शिक्षा, i-Saksham के प्रशिक्षणों से दृढ़ हुआ आत्मविश्वास

i-Saksham के बैच-7 की एडूलीडर बुलबुल कुमारी ने i-Saksham के साथ अपना अनुभव साझा किया है, जिसमें उन्होंने अपनी यात्रा का वर्णन किया है कि किस तरह से उन्होंने संघर्ष किया और एक बार उम्मीद टूटने के बाद i-Saksham के सहयोग से कैसे उन्होंने अपने आत्मविश्वास को पहचाना और अपने पैरों पर उठ खड़ी हुईं। 

बुलबुल ने i-Saksham को बताया कि उनकी  शादी साल 2003 में ही हो गई थी और उस साल वे 12वीं कक्षा में थीं। उनकी शादी एक ऐसे परिवार में हुई, जहां शिक्षा को लेकर लोगों का रवैया उदासीनता से भरा था। साथ ही गांव-समाज के लोगों में भी शिक्षा का बहुत आभाव था। 

उनके परिवार में कोई भी शिक्षित व्यक्ति नहीं था, जिनसे वे अपने मन की व्यथा बोल पाती और समझा पातीं कि उन्हें पढ़ने की इच्छा है। यही कारण रहा कि उनकी पढ़ाई रुक गई। साथ ही पारिवारिक स्थिति भी उतनी अच्छी नहीं थी इसलिए उन्होंने भी अपने अरमानों को दबा दिया और चेहरे पर मुस्कान बिखेर कर रहने लगी। 

आसपास के बच्चों को पढ़ाया

इसके बाद घर की जिम्मेदारी बढ़ी और वे घर-गृहस्थी में इस कदर उलझी कि उन्हें पढ़ाई या पढ़ने के बारे में ख्याल ही नहीं आया। उनके अन्दर पढ़ने की ललक खत्म होते चली गई लेकिन पढ़ाने का एक शौक था इसलिए उन्होंने कुछ सालों बाद आसपास के बच्चों को पढ़ाना शुरू किया।

i-Saksham से बातचीत के दौरान उन्होंने बताया कि साल 2006 में उन्हें एक निजी विद्यालय में पढ़ने का मौका मिला, जिसमें वे केवल एक साल पढ़ सकीं क्योंकि उसी साल उनकी मां का देहांत हो गया, जिस कारण उन्हें पढ़ाई छोड़नी पड़ी।

एक लंबे अंतराल के बाद साल 2011 में उन्हें एक आवासीय विद्यालय में पढ़ने का मौका मिला, जो पहाड़ के किनारे पर स्थित था, जिसे आम बोलचाल की भाषा में संथाली इलाका भी कहा जाता है। यह विद्यालय भी केवल 11 महीने ही चला फिर बंद हो गया। राह में आने वाली इन रुकावटों ने कहीं ना कहीं उनके पढ़ने की ललक को तोड़ने का काम किया और उन्हें लगने लगा कि अब वे नहीं पढ़ पाएंगी।

i-Saksham टीम से मुलाकात

एक दिन उन्हें उस स्कूल के शिक्षक का कॉल आया, जिसमें वे शुरुआती दिनों में पढ़ाया करती थी। शिक्षक ने कॉल करके कहा, अगर अभी आप कुछ नहीं कर रहे हैं, तो मेरे विद्यालय में आकर पढ़ाइए। इसके बाद मैंने साल 2017 से पढ़ाना शुरू किया और लगातार 3 सालों तक पढ़ाया। 

उन्होंने आगे बताया कि एक रोज जीवन में एक बड़ा बदलाव आया, जब सबकुछ ठहर सा गया। यह साल 2020 की बात है, जब i-Saksham के टीम के दो सदस्य ‘संजय भैया’ और ‘धरमवीर सर’ उनके घर आए और यही वक्त था, जब वे i-Saksham से जुड़ी। इस वाकये के बारे में उन्होंने कहा, मेरे लिए वो पल शायद मेरी जिंदगी का एक एतिहासिक पल रहा क्योंकि एक ओर मुझे कई बार रुकावटों का सामना करना पड़ा तो वहीं दूसरी ओर मैं अब नया मुकाम हासिल करने की दिशा में बढ़ने वाली थी।”

पति ने भी किया सहयोग

कुछ महीनों के बाद ही उन्हें अपने अन्दर एक बदलाव महसूस हुआ।  i-Saksham के तत्वधान में उन्हें कई तरह के प्रशिक्षण हासिल हुए, जिससे उन्होंने ना केवल शिक्षा बल्कि अन्य हिस्सों पर भी अमल किया। एक रोज i-Saksham के एक सेशन के दौरान उन्हें IGNOU के बारे में पता चला और उनके अन्दर से इक आवाज़ आई कि हां, मैं भी पढ़ सकती हूं लेकिन उन्हें डर भी था क्योंकि पढ़ाई छोड़े हुए उन्हें 18 साल हो गए थे। 

उनके मन में कई सवाल थे कि अब मैं कैसे पढूंगी, मुझे कुछ समझ में भी नहीं आएगा लेकिन जीवन के इस पड़ाव पर उनके पति ने भी उनका सहयोग किया और उनका ढ़ांढस बढ़ाते हुए कहा कि तुम पढ़ो और अपना नामांकन करवा लो। साथ ही इस सफर में i-Saksham के बड्डी ने भी उनका साथ दिया। 

आज बुलबुल बीए बार्ट-2 की विद्यार्थी हैं और i-Saksham के साथ बतौर एडूलीडर कार्य भी कर रही हैं, जिसका उद्देश्य लड़कियों को समाज में पहचान दिलाया और हर एक लड़की को VOICE AND CHOICE से जोड़ना भी है ताकि लड़कियां अपनी जिंदगी के निर्णय स्वयं ले सकें और अपनी आवाज़ उठा सकें।

मैं स्मृति कुमारी बैच-9 की एडुलीडर हूं। मैं आज आप लोगों के साथ आज की कक्षा का अनुभव साझा करने जा रहीं हूं।

आज मेरे स्कूल में कक्षा अवलोकन के लिए रागिनी दी, अनुप्रिया दी और दीपा दी आई हुई थी। कक्षा अवलोकन के लिए जब दीदी ने बच्चों से पूछा कि उनकी फिलिंग क्या है? तब बच्चों ने उन्हें बताया कि वे उत्साहित हैं लेकिन कुछ बच्चे उदास थे। उनकी उदासी का कारण था कि रास्ते में आते वक्त उनकी साइकिल खराब हो गई थी।

इसके बाद जब मैंने एक दूसरे से उनकी पसंद की सब्जी का नाम पूछा, तब उन्होंने कुछ सब्जियों के नाम बताए फिर इसी को मोड़ते हुए मैंने बच्चों से सब्जियों के नाम पूछे और उन्हें पढ़ाया। आज मैंने अंग्रेजी में बच्चों को सब्जी का नाम पढ़ाया। कलात्मक तरह से बच्चों को समझाने के कारण बच्चे काफी बेहतर तरीके से समझ पा रहे थे। साथ ही हम दोनों के बीच संवाद भी बेहतर हो पा रहा था। 

 

अनेक पहलूओं पर होता है विकास

एडुलीडर स्मृति जब बच्चों को शिक्षित करने के लिए निकलती हैं, तब केवल बच्चों के जीवन में नहीं बल्कि स्मृति के जीवन में भी कई बदलावों की शुरुआत होती है। जैसे- जब वे कक्षा की कमियों को देखते हुए, अपने तरीकों पर काम करती है, इससे उनके अंदर किसी समस्या को समाप्त करने एवं समस्या से जूझने की प्रवृत्ति विकसित होती है, जो उनके आने वाले जीवन के लिए एक सबक की तरह हो सकती है। 

लड़कियों को मिलता है खुला आसमान

साथ ही उनका अपने घरों से निकलना अन्य लड़कियों के लिए प्रेरणा का काम करता है, जो स्वयं की पहचान बनाना चाहती हैं। बतौर एडुलीडर लोगों से मुलाकात करना, उनकी समस्याओं पर बात करना, अभिभावकों को सही-गलत की पहचान कराना एक अच्छे नेतृत्वकर्ता का विकास करता है, जो लोगों की बातों को सलीके से सुनकर उसके निदान की ओर अग्रसर होता है। वे जहां एक ओर अपनी पहचान बुलंद कर रही हैं, वहीं दूसरी ओर वे आत्मविश्वास से निर्णय ले रही हैं। स्वच्छंद होकर निर्णय लेने की क्षमता उनके आने वाले जीवन में उन्हें सही गलत की परख करना सिखाएगा ताकि वे सही निर्णय ले सकें। 

विद्यालयों में जाकर बच्चों को शिक्षित करना एवं शिक्षा के प्रति अभिभावकों समेत बच्चों को जागरुक करना, साफ-सफाई, नामांकन, लड़कियों की शिक्षा के महत्व को जन-जन तक पहुंचाना मात्र एक जरिया है, जो उन्हें कल के नेतृत्वकर्ता की तरह खड़ा करेगा।
